Turning Points: Red Clay Dance Company’s Fall Concert Series at the Logan Center

On October 25 and 26, 2024, Red Clay Dance Company presented Turning Points, its Fall concert series at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts. The mixed repertory program marked the company’s return to the Logan Center stage and offered audiences an evening of reflection, transformation, and artistic risk-taking through Afro-contemporary dance.

Turning Points featured works by three choreographic voices whose practices engage personal, cultural, and collective narratives. Audiences experienced the first live performance of We all ’gon die: into revivals by Philadelphia-based choreographer Lela Aisha Jones, a work that examines grief, resilience, and the cyclical nature of renewal through embodied storytelling.

The program also included DevelopMino by Amansu Eason, a work that explored growth, evolution, and the tension between intention and becoming. Through layered movement and dynamic phrasing, the piece invited audiences to consider transformation as both a personal and communal process.

Closing the program was Unconditional Conditions by Red Clay Dance Company’s Founder and Artistic Director Vershawn Sanders-Ward. The work continued Sanders-Ward’s choreographic inquiry into relationality, care, and the conditions that shape how bodies move together and apart. Presented within the context of the full repertory evening, the work resonated as both a grounding force and a reflection on the company’s evolving artistic direction.

Across both evenings, Turning Points highlighted the breadth of Red Clay Dance Company’s repertory and its commitment to presenting works that center complexity, innovation, and Diasporic perspectives. The Fall series offered audiences a space to witness movement as a site of inquiry — where endings, beginnings, and moments of change coexist onstage.
