MAKING THE ARTIVIST FACILITATOR

Red Clay Dance Company is excited to request applications for the Making the Artivist Facilitator position. The Making the Artivist Facilitator position works within our Community Engagement & Education Department (CE&E) as apart of our Making the Artivist Apprenticeship Program. Our CE&E programs provide transformative learning opportunities where participants activate their passion for artivism (art + activism).

This role is a unique opportunity to join a trendsetting, culturally relevant, socially transforming, elite dance organization in the Chicagoland Area. "We envision an Artivist as one who utilizes their artistic genius to become part of the solution for social change. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Facilitator will:

  • Clearly articulate and demonstrate a personal creative process that models disciplined artistic exploration.

  • Lead choreography and movement creation grounded in storytelling, cultural expression, and strong performance.

  • Mentor emerging artists with strengths-based guidance that supports the development of their creative voices.

  • Implement the Making the Artivist curriculum with fidelity while adapting to diverse identities, abilities, and learning styles.

  • Integrate complementary artistic, cultural, or pedagogical practices to enrich weekly sessions.

  • Facilitate inclusive, community-centered learning spaces that empower participants to take creative risks.

  • Maintain professionalism through reliable attendance, organization, collaboration, and reflective assessment of student growth.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a personal passion for dance, embodied storytelling, and the power of arts education.

  • Engage, challenge, and inspire youth through both dance-making and a clearly articulated creative process.

  • Show authentic care for the young artists and communities served, honoring their identities and experiences.

  • Facilitate a safe, inclusive, community-centered environment that supports creative risk-taking.

  • Communicate with clarity and confidence—including modeling artistic ideas, active listening, and culturally responsive dialogue.

  • Collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders, adapting to diverse needs and learning styles.

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, curiosity, and ongoing artistic growth.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Dance or 5+ years in Choreography  & Composition experience.

  • Access to automobile is a plus but not required.

Compensation:

$35.00 - $60.00 hourly rate - Contract
