Monica Thomas

Monica Thomas is a Prince Georges County Maryland native. She began her professional dance training through 2018-2022 at the Suitland High School for the Creative, Visual and Performing Arts. There she majored in dance and trained in a diversity of dance techniques; while given the opportunity to perform in numerous school productions by professional artists. Simultaneously, Monica was a company member with the Katherine Smith Contemporary Dance Ensemble for 7 years. After receiving her high school diploma in 2022 she then attended the University of the Arts School of Dance for 2 years under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield.

There she has trained in a diversity of techniques with professional dance artists such as Martha Chamberlain, Kim Bears- Bailey, Tommie Waheed- Evans, Dinita Clark and Gary Jeter II. Due to the University’s closure in 2024; she then transferred to the BFA Dance Lab at Bennington College, also under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. Over the years of her study at Bennington Monica has performed in the works of Gary Jeter II, Kyle Clark, Shayla Vie-Jenkins, Juel D. Lane, Jamar Roberts and Danielle Swatzie. Monica has also participated in the International Association of Blacks in Dance Conference (IABD) for the past 3 years. Monica completed her BFA degree at Bennington College, graduating in May 2026. Upon graduating she began her first season with “Red Clay Dance Company” — an opportunity that she is both honored and grateful for; and will persist to grow as an artist as she learns to put her heart and storytelling into movement.
